Delta sleep-inducing peptide (DSIP) is a nonapeptide originally isolated in the 1970s by Schoenenberger and Monnier from cerebral venous blood of rabbits during electrically induced slow-wave sleep states. Its primary sequence is highly conserved, and it has been a subject of neuropeptide research for several decades.

Research Context

Preclinical investigations have examined DSIP in rodent and in vitro models of sleep-related electrophysiology, including studies of EEG delta-wave activity and circadian regulation. Laboratory research has also explored the peptide in models of HPA axis function, opioid system interactions, and thermoregulation. Researchers have used DSIP as a tool compound for examining how short neuropeptides modulate central nervous system signaling.
